Opinion: Apple Press Conference restriction insulting

It appears that the press conference regarding the iPhone 4 will only be for a select few in the media. They will then pass that information along to the rest of us. More then likely we will be able to view the press conference later on. WHY? Why can’t a leader of technology such as Apple make this available to us all to watch live? It’s not like the media isn’t going to repeat everything to us all, why not let us hear it from Apple directly? I know it was a last minute scheduling, but it this could of been accomplished and I feel would of helped bolster my view of Apple confronting this problem head on. Just my opinion, but I doubt I’m the only person who wishes they could watch it live!

Update:
See the presentation here

Worth a watch for sure. The demonstration of the bar drop on competing phones is very telling. Listening to Steve Jobs directly instead of thru someone else gives the full picture of Apple’s response. Why, in my opinion, they should of had this live to the world from the get go.

Update 2:

Seems like they briefly broke the link to the press conference and sent people to the WWDC 2010 introduction of the iPhone. It was quickly fixed.

Update 3:

When you click the link it appears that you are directed to the WWDC keynote. If you paste the link directly into your browser. You end up at the proper place. Hmmmmm…

More possibilities and/or hope of a software fix.

More discussion of a possible software fix. Various descriptions but basically all the same ideas:

  1. Every antenna is affected when exposed to various influences such as being touched.
  2. The chip/firmware responsible for managing the antenna should monitor the dB drop.
  3. The proper response to the dB drop would be to increase the signal strength.

I have read sources claiming that the chip does nothing to boost the signal. I have also read where the chip cut power instead of increasing it. I wonder how much of this is a pipe dream desire for a software fix being able to make the everything better?

Apple Press Conference about the iPhone 4

Apple press conference scheduled for 10am Pacific time tomorrow. I think it is very clear that there is a drop in reception when you touch the iPhone in a certain way. This can be stopped by adding a case, holding it differently or duct tape. This obviously is not up to Apple’s normal engineering level and clearly a major fault in the phone in many areas of the country. The only question left is how Apple will choose to deal with this issue. Partial fixes, recall, denial, replacement, in store repair, mail in repair, etc. are all still on the plate. Now lets see what they do!
